Guarding My Headspace: Winning the Battle of the Mind

Some days my head feels like a traffic jam—cluttered, noisy, and chaotic. It usually happens when I try to multitask or don’t take breaks between meetings. My anxiety rises, my brain fog sets in, and before I know it, I feel overwhelmed and stressed.
Mondays are the worst. After the weekend, I sit down and suddenly see the whole week spread out before me like a tidal wave. Even though my workload is actually more manageable than ever—thanks to systems, structure, an amazing team, and clients I love—it can feel like I’m drowning.
So what’s the problem?
Negative self-talk.
That little voice whispers: “You have too much to do. You’ll never catch up. There’s not enough time.” And even though it’s not true, I can still find myself believing it.
A Trail Walk and a Song
Today, I went for a trail walk to clear my mind, and a song called “Headspace” came on my playlist. The chorus hit me:
“You can say what you want, you can do what you like … but you can’t have my headspace.”
It made me think… this is exactly how the enemy works. He tries to infiltrate our minds with lies, fear, and discouragement. If he can take our headspace, he can weaken our spirit.
But here’s the good news: he doesn’t get to win.
The Battle of the Mind
Scripture tells us this battle is real:
“We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 3:2)
The enemy may knock, but we don’t have to open the door.
How to Overcome
Here are a few ways I’m learning to protect my headspace:
Scripture – When the lies start, I counter them with truth. God’s Word is sharper than any sword (Hebrews 4:12).
Prayer – Prayer realigns my heart with God’s peace. Philippians 4:6–7 promises that when we pray, His peace will guard our hearts and minds.
Holy Spirit – The Spirit empowers me to resist negativity and walk in freedom. He reminds me of who I am and Whose I am.
A Final Thought
Maybe you’ve had days like mine—foggy, anxious, weighed down by thoughts that don’t even line up with reality. Let me remind you: the enemy can’t have your headspace. Guard it, fight for it, and fill it with truth.
The next time the lies come knocking, try saying this out loud: “You can’t have my headspace.”
And then, turn your focus back to the One who renews your mind daily. 🙏
